Ralph Lee Hopkins

Ordover gallery in San Diego, has Ralph Lee Hopkins a nature photographer in same light as Jim Brandenburg. He loves nature particularly Alaska and the Polar bears.I think having a passion about something is great, because it helps artists to set guidelines for themselves and the work they do is not a chore or job, but something fun and genuine. 

The Polar bear jumping in the photo is a great action shot, nothing that can be repeated but you have to be ready for in an instant. This is another aspect of photographer who is passionate about their subject.

Ansel Adams

Ansel Adams is one of my favorite Photographers, He is best known for his work on the Yosemite and other landscapes. One great photo of the Teton Snake River above shows his instincts as a photographer. I can not imagine that taking this photo was easy, especially since he did not have the convenience  of a digital camera. He works in black and white because the cameras at the time could not capture color. However the view is still fantastic and having no color does not diminish the details in the photo. Its also easier to see the darks and lights .

Elizabeth Carmel, exibit: Tuscany 

I liked the entire exibit, but I liked Elizabeth’s, the photos look almost like paintings. The ones that come to mind when I think of the photos as paintings are Tuscan Morning and Tuscan Light.The picture above is Tuscan Morning which looks almost like a painting. I like the the washed out look the fog gives the trees and hills in the back. The foreground is much clearer and more detailed almost like nature was ready to have its picture taken.Tuscan light, I like this photo as well, the vast open country side, rolling hills and green grass. It gives the feeling of a close nit rural society in Tuscany. These photos have a painterly look and feel to them, but with color and detail that can only be captured by a camera artist

Chollier schorr

Chollier Schorr is a photographer who takes pictures of the world of men. She prefers to take pictures that have a revealing quality. She had an interesting notion of taking pictures in order to get to know the type of people the Germans were. I like that she was able to get something more out of a picture than just its face value on film. She was looking for something that ignited an emotion or curiosity in order to take the kind of photograph that says the most.

Book In Progress

My book is almost ready to be sent in for print. I just need to add some text. I included work that i have done in the past semester and this semester.

My Book Idea

My book idea is to make a compilation or portfolio using images from advanced digital arts and artist books classes. I really like the images i captured from my home in Imperial Valley and the trips to the different native american reservations. I want to also capture new images for this class to add to my portfolio. I think I may take photos of my trips to the art galleries I am going to visit soon. The other idea I have is to have a camera with me as much as possible and take pictures of what I like to see. May times I see a nice sunset and I wish I had my camera with me. I do also like the idea o scanning some drawings and editing them with photo shop and make that part of my portfolio as well.  The Photos below are Indian Rock in Vista, and a shot of the desert in Imperial Valley.

James Nachtwey

He is a war photographer who has been all over the world. He has taken photos o suffering and death, but also playful and nurturing. His main goal is to tell the story of war around the world, and to present it uncensored and feature the grim reality of the people that live there. He also puts himself in grave danger while he takes the photos. I also respect that he uses his anger as a focus for his photography, also to deliver the truth about war torn countries. 

 

 

 

 

 

The photo from the september 11 2001 attack on the twin towers, was a connection that he has been covering the same war for years. There are many picture that he has taken over his career and there is something very visceral about them.

Roni Horn

Roni Horn definitely has a unique way of taking pictures. She tries to stay unbound by normal thoughts and goes for things that are hard to understand. Her photographs are more symbolic than they are about the subject in them. I think that she is exploring a different way of capturing images and displaying them using space.
